Heartwarming Story of Homeless Mom and 3 Kids Getting First Apartment in New York City

Even with a full-time job earning $17k per year, Shakira Crawford and her three children lived in a homeless shelter in East New York due to the City's affordable housing crisis.

Using a voucher system pioneered by the de Blasio administration, the Crawford family was finally able to move into their first apartment recently, and our friends at WNYC were there to tell the story.

Shakira Crawford -- a working mother without a place to live. She left an abusive marriage and lived with her 3 kids in a homeless shelter. She struggled to find an apartment month after month but didn't give up.
