Data scientist John Burn-Murdoch recently created this fascinating animated bar chart showing the top-ten most-populous cities in the world from 1500 through present day. New York City had its time in the spotlight, ranking #1 from 1925 when it overtook London, to 1954 when Tokyo grew at an incredibly fast pace. Check it out!
