A Short History of Brooklyn's American Vitograph Company, the First Movie Studio

Historian and filmmaker Tony Susnick recently uploaded this great short history of the American Vitograph Company in Midwood, Brooklyn.

Founded in 1896 by J Stuart Blackton and Alfred E. Smith, the American Vitagraph Company was the first modern motion picture production company in the US. This is a short film of the studios history in Brooklyn along with the current effort to save the smokestack.

Vitograph Studios are considered by most to be the first major motion picture studio, producing high quality shorts, stop motion films, and full feature films before anybody else.
