I have consumed countless Bacon, Egg and Cheese's in the City, each from a bodega or food cart, and each for under $3 or $4. Would New Yorkers like me ever pay $9 for a BEC? In this video from Zagat, editor Kelly Dobkin investigates.

The bacon, egg and cheese sandwich is a New York staple, commonly found at corner bodegas for less than $5. But lately, artisanal BEC sandwiches have been popping up on high-end menus and at gourmet specialty shops across the city, begging the question: how much is too much for this convenience store staple?
