[WATCH] This 10-Layer Fried Chicken Sandwich Is an NYC Hidden Gem

In this episode of Sandwich City, we’re going to Cemitas El Tigre, a lunch counter in Sunnyside, Queens. The restaurant serves Mexican classics like burritos and tacos, but it’s best known for its cemitas, a street food-style sandwich from Central Mexico named after the sesame-seed bun it’s served on.

Follow along as we trace the history of the restaurant’s best-seller, the fried chicken cemitas. It was created out of love and curiosity by Danny Lyu, a culinary outsider who first fell in love with cemitas on a trip to Mexico in 2011. He returned from this trip determined to bring the sandwich back to New York, eventually opening Cemitas El Tigre in 2015.
