The U.S.S. Macon was a rigid hydrogen-filed airship operated by the U.S. Navy from 1933 to 1935 before being permanently damaged by a storm off the coast of California. In this amazing vintage photograph from 1933, the Macon is seen hovering over New York Harbor with Lower Manhattan and bits of Brooklyn Heights in the background.
