This interesting vintage photograph shows the Fulton Street Elevated Line in 1915. Taken near the intersection of Fulton St. and Hoyt St., many of these older buildings exist in their same form today, despite the elevated line closing down in 1940. Here is a Google StreetView of how the same block looks today, seen from ground level:
