Here is a fantastic aerial photograph capturing amazed tourists inside the crown of the Statue of Liberty sometime in 1947.

From it's dedication on October 28th, 1886, all the way up until 9/11 on September 11th, 2001, the observation deck inside the crown was open to the public.

After 2001 however, the crown was closed off for several years for National security purposes, only reopening to the public again in 2009 with a limited number of visitors allowed.

With a high demand, tickets are hard to get, but possible. You can plan your visit and reserve tickets here if you want to visit the crown.
