Brooklyn-based photographer Jonathan Mehring has an annual tradition of hitting the subway on Halloween, documenting all the crazy costumes, freaks and weirdos that ride each year.
For the past couple years he's been spending his All Hallows Eve riding the rails around the five boroughs, documenting all the subterranean costumed happenings for an annual zine called Sub Halloween. The results are a stunning mix of festive, awkward, hilarious, and eerie. I sat Jonathan down to talk Halloween, street photography, and Rastafarian Batman.
Chris Nieratko from Vice recently got a chance to sit down and talk with the photographer about all things photography, subway and Halloween, so be sure to check out that article for more.
