Starting this Friday, June 10th, you can take a ride on this giant musical swingset at Brookfield Place in Battery Park City.
Hello, NYC! Join us this summer in the heart of the Financial District for The Swings' Manhattan debut. Recognizing the potential in activating public spaces through art, Arts Brookfield has commissioned the installation to reinvigorate their newly built development along the Hudson River waterfront.
So how does it work?
The interactive installation consists of a series of musical swings. When used all together, the swings compose a musical piece in which certain melodies emerge only through cooperation. It’s a game where from the start you need to adjust to the actions of others. The Swings allow participants to make music with their entire bodies, to connect to one another and to have a sense of ownership of public space due to the music they create. The result is a giant collective instrument that brings together people of all ages and backgrounds.
The Swings: An Exercise in Musical Cooperation will be open to the public until July 7th. Check out the exhibition page for more info.
