'The Harlem Hellfighters' — a Graphic Novel by the Author of World War Z

Graphic Novelist Max Brooks, creator/animator of World War Z and The Zombie Survival Guide amongst others, has written another book titled The Harlem Hellfighters which has a very disturbing non-fictional history that starts in Harlem, NYC.

In World War I, when the United States entered the War, the U.S. Government setup one of it's own units - an African-American regiment - specifically to fail. They did everything they could to undercut them, humiliate them, sabotage them, make sure they didn't get in combat. And then when they did get into combat, they fought for the French, and still ended up coming home as one of the most decorated units in the whole U.S. Army.
