A decade after its first edition was released, Adrienne Onofri's excellent guidebook Walking Brooklyn: 30 Tours Exploring Historical Legacies, Neighborhood Culture, Side Streets, and Waterways has recently been completely updated, rewritten, and redesigned. Inside, you can find thirty walking tours to follow, with step-by-step directions, including how to get to/from the start/end of each walk via public transportation. Nearly every Brooklyn neighborhood is included, and the book is illustrated with great color photographs snapped by the author.

Each chapter of Walking Brooklyn features a DIY tour route, with step-by-step directions, an area map, photographs, and public transportation information. Every tour tells the story of a neighborhood’s past, present, and future, shedding light on its buildings and landmarks, community life, ethnic heritage, cultural and retail scene, and role in Brooklyn’s renaissance. Readers will discover revitalized districts and state-of-the-art new developments; stroll along the river, bay, or ocean; visit galleries, performance spaces, and artists’ workshops; and see residences ranging from the iconic brownstones to Victorian houses to contemporary high-rises.

Definitely worth checking out if you live in or spend any time in the borough. A paperback copy of Walking Brooklyn: 30 Tours Exploring Historical Legacies, Neighborhood Culture, Side Streets, and Waterways is a steal at just $12 on Amazon.
