New Yorkers throw out a lot of interesting things. Some things are food items that are perfectly edible, some are in discarded yet otherwise perfect condition, and sometimes, people even toss vintage items with a ton of history. In this short video from filmmakers Rota6 Films, meet a trash collector named Nick DiMola who finds, cleans, and keeps these historic items.

Meet Nick DiMola, a bonafide trash connoisseur. He loves his job and he loves garbage. Over 30 years in the garbage business, he has collected a museum’s worth of old and rare items, most of it from the estates of dead people. With every piece of trash that he saves from the landfill, a piece of history lives on.
