[VIDEO] Learn All About the Design Behind the MTA’s New Live Subway Map

"The Map" (Work & Co x Gary Hustwit, 2020) is a short documentary about a digital redesign of New York City's iconic subway map. Filmmaker Gary Hustwit documents the process as digital agency Work & Co creates a new "live map" — one that updates in real-time — to help New Yorkers and tourists better plan their journeys. The film examines the evolution of wayfinding and user interfaces, and shows how good design and the latest digital technology can simplify one of the world's most complex transit systems.

Visit map.mta.info to check out the new live map, and head to Work & Co to learn more about the design process behind it.

[TONIGHT ONLY] Play "Simon" on the Empire State Building

Tonight only (Halloween, 10/31/2020) from 8-9pm EST, you can play the popular color/sound matching game Simon on the real Empire State Building lights. Here's how:

• If you’re in New York or New Jersey, look out your window or find your favorite (socially-distanced) view of ESB and open www.Simon-Live.com on your phone on 10/31 from 8-9PM EST. Not local? Visit www.Simon-Live.com and play along.
• Watch levels of the Empire State Building flash in a series of colors and tones. Tap the building on your device to repeat the pattern correctly. The longer you play, the more complex the sequences.
• For every correct answer, players climb further up the Empire State Building. Each wrong answer knocks you down. Try to make it to the top of the building, and the top of the leaderboard!
