Portals is a cool tech-heavy project from the team at Shared_Studios that allows people to communicate with each other worldwide as if they were in the same room.

Portals are gold shipping containers with immersive audio and video technology inside. When you enter one, you come face-to-face with someone in the other container, full-body, and the two of you converse live as if in the same room.

Back in March, Portals successfully crowdfunded over $60k through a Kickstarter campaign to help bring these shipping containers to more Cities.

Check out the Portals website for more info on how it works, and where you can try one out. The next New York City portal will open in October, connecting a Chelsea Art Gallery to an Art Center in Tehran.
