Is the "New York Accent" Vanishing?

The classic New York accent is one that is often attempted, but nearly impossible to recreate unless you grew up in the 5 boroughs. From celebrities like Woody Allen, Rosie Perez and Robert De Niro to pizza delivery drivers and sports fans, when they speak in that accent, you instantly know where they are from.

According to a new documentary entitled If These Knishes Could Talk: The Story of the New York Accent, it seems that in recent years the accent is disappearing from the City as wealthier people move in from across the world, and push the native New Yorker's farther into the outer boroughs.
