Streit's Matzos opened a factory in the Lower East Side of Manhattan in 1925. A century ago, the Lower East Side was the epicenter of Judaism in New York City, and business was booming for Streit's, Katz's, Russ & Daughters, and countless other businesses that catered to the neighborhood. Today only a handful of them remain, and now Streit's is about to close up shop as well after 90 years in the neighborhood.
