Here's How HBO Made the Stunning NYC Title Sequence Intro for "The Night Of"

The Night Of is a new HBO 8-part mini-series that explores a fictional crime and subsequent murder case, staring John Turturro and Riz Ahmed.

The show has a stunning intro title sequence that combines aerial videography over the streets of New York City, the Manhattan grid, and other dark elements found in the City and the show. Visual effects studio Method was tapped for the gig, and here's how they created the intro:

When Writer and Director Steven Zaillian approached Method’s design team to pitch on the main title sequence for his HBO miniseries, we couldn’t have been more excited. After exploring multiple creative directions for the titles, we landed on a concept that would require multiple techniques to achieve our unique aesthetic. We began by shooting original New York City photography, followed by exploring various techniques in photogrammetry, dynamic simulations, projection mapping, as well as utilizing strong images from the show itself. Our mission was to set the audience up for the dark and dangerous journey they are about to be immersed in with HBO’s ‘The Night Of’.
