It's no secret that search giant Google keeps a record of things searched for on the web, and with the interactive Frightgeist map, they finally put that info to good use.
With Frightgeist, we went on a hunt to find the most popular costumes. Pulling from the top 500 costume searches in the United States, Frightgeist uses Google Trends to tell you what’s trending at a costume party near you and help you find a costume that’s sure to turn heads — if they have them.
You can check out which costume searches and purchases are the most popular in your neighborhood, so you can avoid the awkward moment of being Pizza Rat #4 at the Halloween party.
In New York City, the #1 costume is the generic "Superhero", so maybe avoid that whole genre this year.
