Brooklyn cartoonist Will Eisner is often referred to as the Father of the Graphic Novel for his early cartoon work in the comic book industry.
There is a reason the annual excellence awards for creative achievement in comic books are called The Eisner Awards, established a decade before the great comic artist's death in 2005.
