Our friends at Bowery Boogie recently got the chance to explore the old abandoned hospital complex on Ellis Island once used to treat hopeful immigrants who carried infectious diseases and suffered from psychiatric illness. If they could not be cured, they were sent back and denied entry into the City.
Creepy. Cold. Intense. Haunted. All apt adjectives to describe the unused section of Ellis Island designated as ruins. It is on the south side of this national park – straddling the state lines of New York and New Jersey – that a maze-like collection of twenty-nine buildings sits. Rotting away from the inside out.
Check out the full writeup on Bowery Boogie for more photos and history of the disintegrating complex.
