Author Makes a Living Teaching Transplant Parents That It's OK to Let Their Children Walk Alone in New York City

Native New Yorker and former New York Daily News and New York Sun columnist Lenore Skenazy let her 9-year old ride the subway alone one day. She wrote up a column about it and it spurred a national debate about child safety, eventually leading to books, television appearances, speaking events and her business Free Range Kids which teaches parents to let go and let reality trump fear.

[...] so I started a business. Call me if you are really nervous and I will send your kids outside while I lock you indoors. It's as simple as that. And I've done it several times and it just works. It works because reality breaks through this gigantic fear that's been hoisted down parent's throats, that they have to be worried about their kids every single day.
