In this 1953 photograph snapped by Vivian Maier, we are looking South down 3rd Avenue from 59th St. You can see the old IRT 3rd Avenue Elevated Line as it extends off into the distance, as well as the Chrysler Building without it's current plethora of surrounding skyscrapers. For reference, here is the same view as it appears today.
