This great vintage photograph from June, 1936, shows two men chatting on the stoop of 133 Avenue D on Manhattan's Lower East Side. At that time, the storefronts were occupied by a coffee shop and M.H. Appel Bakery, long gone. Here is a Google StreetView of how the building looks today:
