When it was built in 1913, the Woolworth Building was the tallest building in the world at a height of 792 feet over 57 floors. At the time, it was a marvel of technology, featuring an all-steel frame with a foundation set deep into the Manhattan bedrock. It was adorned with exquisite art and detail work, including extensive terra cotta cladding, marble and stained glass. This video covers a brief history and tour of the building from the New York Landmarks Conservancy excellent video series Tourist in Your Own Town.
