Dec. 8, 1929: Thirty-foot-tall cartoon Katzenjammer Kids marched — or rather, floated — in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade to “an unknown destination.” The Katzenjammer Kids was a popular comic strip by Rudolph Dirks (later joined by Harold H. Knerr), who also created the spin-off strips Hans and Fritz and, eventually, The Captain and the Kids.
