This Former Sanitation Worker is Photographing Brooklyn's Adorable Feral Cats
Back to Article
Joe feeds one of his feral colonies as John Kaper watches. John feeds the cats on weekends when Joe is busy walking dogs on the Upper West Side for wealthy families, his main source of income since retiring from driving garbage trucks in NYC. \"I've spent about $33,000 on the cats in the last 3 years. I love the cats. I actually do. And they need my help. The medical costs a fortune…the vet has mercy on me sometimes and gives me a discount. The cats would be dead without the shelters and food. They'd freeze to death. Saddest time was when we lost 11 cats after Hurricane Sandy...the worst loss was Cowboy. Took me forever to get close to that cat."
