In the late 70's a bike messenger by the name TAKI 183 became what most believe to be the 1st tagger in NYC, he was famous for tagging everywhere he went, but his subway tags became extremely popular. They started a trend, where every taggers #1 dream location was either inside or outside a train! Most graffiti in NYC during the 80s was subway cart graffiti. However the government cracked down in the early 90s and subway art became extremely rare! When I planned to come to NYC I told my self I would follow in the foot steps of those who came before me and put art in the subway cart!
