Nigel Chiwaya at DNAinfo recently created this great little interactive site showing many of the huge construction projects which have been started, and finished in the past 100 years since the 2nd Ave. Subway was first proposed.
When phase one of the Second Avenue Subway opens next year it will come after almost a century of planning and false starts. Scroll down to the bottom of this page to learn about other city mega-projects that were built during the time the subway was delayed.
