Hundreds of Children Audition for a Role in New Broadway Musical School of Rock

A new Broadway musical is in the works. School of Rock is an upcoming theater production by legendary composer Andrew Lloyd Webber based on the 2003 film of the same name. The New York Times attended an open-casting call and shot many of the hopeful children seeking parts in the production.

Among those parked at a big table for some nine hours of tryouts — about 720 kids, ages 9-15 auditioned — were the show’s director, Laurence Connor, and the choreographer JoAnn M. Hunter. They were looking for charismatic kids who could sing and/or play an instrument with Jimi or Janis as their tween spirit guides.
