The New York Public Library recently released this great playlist of New York City sounds to help remind you of what our City normally sounds like/. Check it out!

The New York we know and love is one click away: cabs honking, pigeons cooing, bike messengers whizzing by, strangers gossiping, the hum of a local library. Anywhere you are can now become the city—all you need is Missing Sounds of New York, The New York Public Library’s new album.

A new immersive experience, the album is a collection of audio landscapes that evoke some of the sounds of New York City. Missing Sounds of New York, a partnership with creative agency Mother New York, is a love letter to NYC, connecting New Yorkers around the familiar sounds of urban life that they love and miss during this unprecedented time of social separation.

Bending Sounds: An Audio Exploration of New York City Subway Stations

Six years ago, Brooklyn cinematographer Tim Sessler, owner of film company Brooklyn Aerials, created this interesting exploration of sound in the New York City subway called Bending Sounds. In the video, he tours several different subway stations, picking up the sound of various subway buskers and musisicans doing their thing.

For the best experience, watch it with headphones!! :) Shot within a couple hours on a sunny Saturday afternoon, "Bending Sounds" is a test/experiment to capture the inspirational sounds and visuals of the NYC subway. If you enter your zip code, the tool will pull up all noise complaints and give the neighborhood a grade based on comparisons to other zip codes.
