A new Walmart subsidiary, called Code Eight, has recently started testing a personal shopping service for “busy NYC moms,” according to multiple sources, with the goal of letting them get product recommendations and make purchases simply through text messaging. The target customer of Code Eight is described in an online job listing as a “high net worth urban consumer” — translation: A rich city dweller — certainly not the historical sweet spot for Walmart’s main business. Household items are delivered for free within 24 hours; other purchases are delivered within two business days. Returns are picked up for free at a customer’s apartment building or house.

When it was announced last year that Amazon signed a lease on a large Midtown space across the street from the Empire State Building, everybody thought it was going to be the retail giant's first brick and mortar store. Turns out, it was just a huge warehouse space for the nearly-instant Amazon Prime Now delivery service.

Amazon has fulfillment centers in 20 cities across the United States dedicated to ultrafast orders placed through its Prime Now app. Through this service, which is available for Amazon Prime members, customers can opt for items to be delivered in an hour.

Time recently made some interesting gifs showing what it looks like inside the warehouse from click to delivery.

Franks Music Company first opened it's doors in Midtown Manhattan in 1937. Over the past 78 years it has been one of the most successful sheet music stores in all of New York. But in recent years sales have dwindled due to ease of purchase online and in digital forms on tablets and phones. This Friday, March 6th, the store will lock it's doors for the last time, and the only store dedicated to selling sheet music in New York City will close for good.

Frank Music has been struggling for years, as music became readily available online, said Heidi Rogers, the shop’s owner. “We went from seeing 15 to 20 people per day to seeing two or three,” Ms. Rogers said on Monday. “I went from feeling like I was at the center of the world to feeling invisible.”
