The thieves had stolen money from hundreds of bank account holders across Brooklyn and Queens. The investigators put together a case with the Queens District Attorney's Office that ultimately sent the three thieves to jail.

For almost 20 years the Police foundation has funded the stationing of NYPD Intelligence Officers across the globe to gather firsthand intelligence on worldwide counterterror operations. There are now 18 officers in the International Liaison Program building contacts with local law enforcement agencies and providing in-depth analysis to their counterparts back home. In the event of a terrorist attack overseas, these detectives can be at the scene to provide timely information to the NYPD.

This Interactive NYC Crime Map Lets You Visualize All City Crime Per Precinct

The NYC Crime Map is an interactive map produced by the City which lets you play with crime data per precinct.

Crime data is provided in map format for the, “seven major NYS Penal Law felonies” (Murder and Non-Negligent Manslaughter, Rape, Robbery, Felonious Assault, Burglary, Grand Larceny and Grand Larceny Motor Vehicle. Attempted crimes are recorded as that crime with the exception of Attempted Murder which is recorded as a Felonious Assault.) A crime map can be presented cumulatively year to date, previous year cumulative and by any specific month in either period. The opening and default map views are of the most recent full month count of all seven major crimes.

The map is updated frequently, but runs about 2 months behind the current date as police reports are collected, filed and digitized pretty slowly. How safe is your neighborhood?

NYC Scams 101: Don't Get Fooled By Social Security Scams Over the Telephone

The New York City Police Department is warning New Yorkers about a increase in social security scam attempts targeting not only seniors, but many others as well.

Phone scams are on the rise, and it's not just affecting senior citizens, it's affecting everyone. A few tips to identify if the call is a scam:

1) The caller requests a prepaid gift card (Google Play or Apple);
2) Requests you send cash through FedEx
3) Asks you to use a BitCoin ATM
4) Requests you wire money to a new protected bank account.

Government agencies will never contact you by phone and demand payment, or ask for your Social Security number, driver's license, or bank account information.
