This New York City Non-Profit Organization Helps Both Human and Animal Victims of Domestic Abuse

People and Animals Living Safely (PALS) is a unique non-profit shelter program from the Urban Resource Institute in New York City that provides a safe space for the victims of domestic abuse, both human and animal. Many shelters will force human victims away from their beloved pets, but PALS allows them to co-shelter for as long as necessary.

PALS (People and Animals Living Safely) is the only program in New York City and one of the few in the U.S. that allows domestic violence victims to co-shelter (live in shelter with their pets).

826NYC is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization based in Brooklyn that seeks to support students from age 6 through 18 with their creative and expository writing skills, and to help teachers inspire their students to write creatively.

The non-profit has a super cool storefront in Park Slope called Brooklyn Superhero Supply Co. where kids can go to help inspire their inner superhero, or if preferred, their inner super villain.

BloomAgainBKLYN is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization based out of Cobble Hill, Brooklyn, which repurposes unsold and once-used flowers into new arrangements which are distributed by volunteers to home bound seniors, local nursing home residents, trauma and homeless survivors, and others in need. Founded by Caroline Gates-Anderson, BloomAgainBKLYN's mission is to bring joy through the giving of flowers & create an uplifting experience shared by volunteers & by those who may not regularly have visitors. Rethink Food NYC is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization working to recover nutritious excess food from New York City restaurants in order to provide low or no-cost meals to local homeless and families in need.

According to Feeding America, there are 42 million people facing hunger in the United States, with 1.4 million being in New York City alone. Astonishingly, research shows about 40% of the food produced in America today goes to waste; this is equivalent to 70 billion tons. Our goal is make sure the wholesome excess food gets to hungry mouths.

Snack*NYC is a great 501(c)(3) non-profit organization based here in New York City that has setup a large activity center for special needs kids and adults in Midtown East.

SNACK is the creation of New York mom and SNACK's Executive Director, Jackie Ceonzo. In 2003, after being unable to find a fulfilling program for her son, Joey, she worked with a team of professionals to create a place where any child, despite their abilities, can socialize and enjoy activities while learning practical skills in a collaborative, fun, and welcoming environment. At SNACK, children of ALL abilities are welcome including those with no diagnosis. ALL SNACK activities are open to the general public.

Luv on a Leash Therapy Dogs, a project of the Pride Center of Staten Island, is dedicated to placing trained, registered therapy dog teams in meaningful programs throughout the Staten Island Community. Our dogs and their handlers provide comfort and caring in a wide variety of settings including hospitals, extended care and residential facilities, schools and agencies where therapy dogs can be of benefit.
