The group-housing industry is growing in American cities. One Brooklyn company, Pure House, prides itself on providing not just group housing, but “an intentional way of living” amid the isolation of modern urban life. In this episode of If Our Bodies Could Talk, the residents of Pure House invite James Hamblin to learn more about the trend, complete with dinner and meditation.

8 years ago, it would have been Williamsburg. 4 years ago it would have been Bushwick. Last year, maybe Greenpoint. In 2016 however, one Brooklyn neighborhood shines above all else according a real estate firm Cushman & Wakefield.

In their new Cool Streets report, the firm analyzed neighborhood statistics and created a list of the 100 "coolest" neighborhoods in the nation. So what makes a neighborhood "cool" anyway?

"Most of the neighborhoods featured in this report are up-and-coming trade areas driven by dramatic demographic shifts and strong Millennial preference for urban living," the report says. "The renaissance occurring on these Cool Streets has been driven by an explosion of new restaurant and retail concepts that connect with the seemingly elusive Millennial consumer like no other."

Using this definition, the report names Sunset Park as the coolest neighborhood in the country.

Check out the full report for more info on how they came to this conclusion.

New York City has seen its fair share of innovative City-centric Instagram accounts. From @GuessNewYorkCity's gallery of guessable City street art (sans locations) to @hotdudesreading's collection of attractive men reading books on the Subway, us New Yorkers have gotten to see the City through many different lenses.

The newest Instagram account to take off, however, doesn't even make use of a camera. Instead, Brooklyn Cartoons chooses to capture City life through a series of black and white drawings à la The New Yorker, which are shared with its nearly 25,000 followers almost daily.

Many of the cartoons feature irony and dry humor as their main narrative tools, sharply capitalizing on the ridiculousness of twenty-something City life--but all in good fun. Excessive smartphone use, Tinder, Uber, The Bachelor, and millennial existentialism are only a few of the topics that are frequently touched on by artist Emmet Truxes. Browse the gallery above to get a glimpse of his work, but be prepared to cringe as he "holds up the mirror to generation why".

They’re recognizable by their overstuffed backpacks, dogs, and cardboard panhandling signs. They’ve been given many labels: gutter punks, crusties, street kids. In New York, their base is the East Village, that long-time hub for young people on the fringes; when the weather grows cold, many will hitchhike or “hop freight” to warmer cities in the South or out West.

A new project from the University of Waterloo School of Planning in Ontario called Generationed City has been compiling data on youthification in major cities across the world, including New York City. Specifically, they have determined where millennials, defined as those born between 1980 and 2000, choose to live in relation to the metropolitan area.

The initial results may not surprise you–young adults living in New York City tend to set up shop in North Brooklyn, the Far West Side, the Upper East Side, the East Village and western Queens. [...] What’s interesting about the project in New York is that it shows some unexpected pockets of youth, like Bayonne and West New York in New Jersey, parts of the North Bronx, Forest Hills, and Yonkers.
