The staff at an elite ICU in New York City had seen many emergencies, but nothing close to the start of the coronavirus outbreak in March 2020. CBS News' Lesley Stahl sits down with doctors from New York-Presbyterian/Weill-Cornell Hospital, and with journalist Marie Brenner, author of "The Desperate Hours," to pull back the curtain on the inner lives, struggles and triumphs of doctors who were living in what felt like a war zone.

The City's first medical marijuana dispensary has opened in the East Village. Today was the first day of business for Columbia Care on 14th Street in between 2nd and 3rd Avenues. Our friends over at Metro stopped by to check it all out.

Upon walking into the facility’s front doors, patients must first present their registry identification card at the front desk window — anyone who fails to show the card will be turned away. In order to qualify, patients must suffer from conditions such as cancer, HIV infection or AIDS, ALS, Parkinson’s diseases, multiple sclerosis, spinal cord injury with spasticity, epilepsy, inflammatory bowel disease, neuropathy or Huntington’s disease. Once inside, patients spend some time in a waiting room before meeting with a pharmacist to discuss treatment options. The only forms available at the dispensary will be tinctures, concentrate for vaporization or capsules.

The dispensary was not at all like I expected… pretty boring to be honest. I was hoping to see bongs and Bob Marley, but instead got snake plants and corporate banners.

From the birth of photography through the atomic age, The Burns Archive with over one million historic photographs is best known for providing photographic evidence of forgotten, unseen and disquieting aspects of history. The cornerstone of The Burns Archive is its unparalleled collection of early medical photography, but it is also renowned for its iconic images depicting the darker side of life: Death, Disease, Disaster, Mayhem, Crime, Racism, Revolution and War.

If you go to the emergency room after acute alcohol intoxication (hungover), you'll be given IV hydration. In mild cases, a nurse can now bring that hydration to your office. In this episode of If Our Bodies Could Talk, senior editor James Hamblin investigates the lengths to which some people will go to undo their excesses.

In this video from the Atlantic, Senior Editor James Hamblin M.D. learns what the service is all about and how it works.
