2018 Big Apple Barbecue Block Party is This Weekend in Madison Square Park

Now in its 16th year, the Big Apple Barbecue Block Party is back this weekend with over 14,000 pounds of ribs, 7,500 pounds of pork, and 3,500 gallons of beer and wine.

Every June, tens of thousands of New Yorkers descend on Madison Square Park in downtown Manhattan for a chance to taste authentic barbecue from an all star cast of pitmasters from across the United States.

The highly anticipated festival will take place on the streets surrounding Madison Square Park. Tickets for block party are still available, with Fast Passes starting at just $125 (including $100 worth of food). You can always simply go for free and pay for food with cash as well.

Here's What Went Down at the 2018 New York City Hot Sauce Expo This Weekend

The 6th annual NYC Hot Sauce Expo took place in Greenpoint this past weekend and a mass of local spiceheads came out to try the best hot sauces, both locally, and from around the world. Both days were jam packed with events, from the "Screaming Mi Mi Awards", to spicy eating challenges, to a cocktail competition, and even a chihuahua beauty pageant! Vendors provided samples of all sauces, ranging from the mildest BBQ sauce to the spiciest ghost pepper sauces money can buy!

Viewing NYC was invited to check out the expo, so of course we scoped out all local New York City hot sauce vendors and gave them a try. Note that we do include ourselves in the aforementioned spicehead group, so naturally, we had to try the spiciest sauces each vendor had to offer. Here's what we thought…

10th Annual New York City Wine & Food Festival Kicks Off Today

Get $1 Slices From NYC's Best Pizza Joints at 2017's Slice Out Hunger Event This October

Slice Out Hunger is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization based in New York City that aims to support hunger relief initiatives by fundraising through the American pizza industry.

On Wendesday, October 4th @ 6pm, the organization will be hosting their annual NYC $1 Slice Night at St. Anthony of Padua Church in SoHo, featuring over 50 of the City's best pizzerias all offering $1 slices in one convenient location. Last year's participating pizzerias were:

Tickets Available Now for 2017 'Taste of the East Village' Food Festival and Fundraiser

The Taste of East Village food festival is an annual culinary event in the East Village's Cooper Square that give you great deals on small plates from participating restaurants, with the proceeds going directly back to the community through outreach programs.

The Taste of East Village is an outdoor culinary festival on East 7th Street, between Cooper Square and 2nd Avenue, benefiting the Cooper Square Committee’s affordable housing preservation and development work (including the soon to open Bea Arthur Residence for homeless LGBT youth), our environmental greening work, social services, and senior programming. We feature dishes from more than 15 of the East Village’s best restaurants and eateries (see the list below). Come celebrate our amazing East Village and Lower East Side community!

This year's festival is on Saturday, September 16, 2017 from 12pm to 5pm. Tickets are $25 and include 4 small food plates from any of the vendors. Check out the event page for more info.

Brooklyn is Hosting NYC's First Food Festival Dedicated to Edible Insects This Weekend

Coming to three venues in Greenpoint and Williamsburg this Labor Day weekend, the Brooklyn Bug Festival is the first of its kind to come to New York City. Ticket-holders will get gourmet tastings featuring ants, crickets, worms and other edible insects, along with cooking demonstrations, talks with gourmet chefs and more.

Does the idea of eating bugs interest you? Does it make your skin crawl? Do you know that the United Nations recommends edible insects as a sustainable source of protein for the burgeoning population? Learn more about entomophagy from industry leaders and gain a cultural understanding and point of view from artists and visionaries who will be joining our presentations and workshops.
