The Hudson River Special Flight Rules Area is an incredible thing: unrestricted airspace right next to Manhattan. We flew it. ■ Thanks to John De Groot, and to Century Air (who mostly provide pilot training, so I'm grateful that they took the time to arrange this!): http://centuryair.com/ - this is not sponsored, I paid for my flight and their time.

The flight and radio procedures in this video have been significantly shortened for time, and operations over the city were pre-approved with local air traffic control. This is not intended as a substitute for proper instruction or for reference.

While "jetpacks" have existed for some time now, they are usually made to work by shooting water or air out at high pressure. But it's 2015 now, and in what they are claiming to be the world's only real jetpack, the team at JetPack Aviation has created one that actually uses mini-jet engines.

Check out this video they uploaded of a pilot using the jetpack to fly around the New York Harbor and around the Statue of Liberty.

Exclusive video of the world's only real JetPack flown in New York around the Statue of Liberty.

Ever wonder what happens when you throw a paper airplane out of a 31-story skyscraper window? Thanks to this video uploaded in 2006 by Sam Fuller, you can find out. Follow the paper airplane from creation in a Financial District office of some sort, then a toss out the open window, and it's spiraling descent to the ground with stunning views of the city… though the quality does look as if the video was filmed using a potato.

The music featured in the video is Alexandre Desplat — "The Rendez-vous".
