It's always great when traveling filmmakers and cinematographers focus their lens on our City, as they often capture its beauty without a tourist eye. Spanish filmmaker and Vimeo uploader thisisbrv once visited New York and shot My Eyes on New York, a short visual love letter featuring beautiful shots all around lower and midtown Manhattan.

As a filmmaker traveling to New York for second time, I'd grab my camera and shoot footage of what was going on around me, to try and take in all that was happening. To try and capture the sense of streets, I felt in a place intense and diverse.

Woody Allen's film Manhattan features an iconic opening that is considered one of the best portraits of New York City ever created.

In this video from filmmaker Dustin Lee, modern black and white footage is set underneath the movie's opening musica and dialogue.

The opening sequence from Woody Allen's Manhattan is the ultimate love letter to New York City. I thought it would be a fun experiment to shoot new footage of the city, and edit it to Allen's monologue and George Gershwin's wonderful Rhapsody in Blue. Much of NYC has changed since 1979 (when the film was released), but I think if you listen to the monologue you'll see that its heart and soul are the same even 30-40 years later. Enjoy!
