Video artist Nelson Sullivan went everywhere and filmed just about everything downtown in the 1980s. In this video from the 5 Ninth Avenue Project — the NYU-run YouTube channel that is digitizing and releasing the vast archives of Sullivan's video — watch as the artist documents one of the first Gay Pride festivals in the City in 1983.

Expect a lot of laughter across New York City this November as some of the brightest names in comedy take to stages around the city for the New York Comedy Festival. Caroline Hirsch, the founder of iconic Times Square comedy club Carolines on Broadway, also co-founded the comedy festival back in 2004. Hirsch joined the PIX11 Morning News on Monday to tell us all about this year’s festival, as well as where the idea for the festival came from and why it’s so important for the comedy scene in New York.

[WATCH] Event Map Released for Car-Free Summer Streets 2019 in Manhattan

Anybody who has tried riding a bike from Downtown through Midtown and up to Central Park would tell you that it is a frustrating experience. Taxis cut you off, delivery trucks and cop cars park in your bike lanes, and pedestrians jay-walk whilst looking down at their phones. This August however, things will be different. Well, for three Saturdays at least.

Summer Streets is an annual celebration of New York City's most valuable public space—our streets. Summer Streets provides space for healthy recreation and encourages New Yorkers to use more sustainable forms of transportation. In 2018, nearly 300,000 people took advantage of the open streets.

At Summer Streets, cars will be banned completely for 7 miles on Lafayette St. and Park Ave., letting you bike, blade, jog, or scoot all the way without having to worry about anything but the sun.

This year's Summer Streets dates are on Saturday August 3rd, 10th and 17th between the hours of 7am and 1pm. Check the event page for more info.

[VIDEO] Brew at the Zoo Returns in June, Bringing Over 100 Varieties of Wine and Beer for Unlimited Sampling

Now in its fourth year, Brew at the Zoo is a special event at the Bronx Zoo which lets ticketholders get unlimited tastings on over 100 types of beer and wine, listen to music, dance, and even explore the park after hours.

From 6 to 7:30 p.m. grizzly bears, giraffes, lemurs, sea lions and more will be on exhibit. Stop by and see your favorites before the unlimited beer tastings begin. At 7 p.m. we'll start pouring samples of over 100 varieties of wine and beer, so you can find a new favorite or enjoy a classic. When you're drinking beer, you need food, and we'll have plenty of options. Sample from numerous food trucks or enjoy classic bites at one of our zoo cafes, there will be a wide array of treats available for purchase. Throughout the night, channel your inner rock star and sing karaoke with a live band, test your animal IQ during bar trivia, or take a break at the retro 80's lounge. We'll provide the soundtrack with a live band and DJs.

The NYC Winter Lantern Festival is a new event at Snug Harbor Cultural Center and Botanical Garden on the north shore of Staten Island that includes over 40 installations of larger-than-life lantern sculptures filled with light.
