Project Hospitality is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization based out of Staten Island that has the mission "to reach out to community members who are hungry, homeless or otherwise in need in order to work with them to achieve their self-sufficiency — thereby enhancing the quality of life for our community" Two days a week, the non-profit runs a soup kitchen and food pantry, the largest on Staten Island. The NYC Taxi Drivers Calendar is back for 2019 with another fantastic group of New York City's finest pin-up models.

The 2019 New York City Taxi Drivers Calendar, a comedic take on the traditional pin-up, features 12 of the city's most scintillating and good-humored yellow cab drivers.

The calendar is a fundraiser for University Settlement, a non-profit organization based in the Lower East Side that provides quality education, housing, recreation and wellness opportunities, and literacy programs to immigrants and working individuals in need of assistance. A portion of the $14.99 calendar proceeds go directly to the organization.

[VIDEO] Stavros Niarchos Foundation Gives Landmark $55M Gift to New York Public Library

The New York Public Library recently announced that they have received a landmark $55 Million gift from the Stavos Niachos Foundation for the renovation and transformation of the Mid-Manhattan Central Circulating Branch. The building will reopen in 2020 under the name "Stavros Niarchos Foundation Library", and will establish an endowment to further support ongoing public programs at the newly completed branch.

The Foundation’s transformational $55 million gift will support the creation of a modern, central branch to hold the Library’s largest circulating collection and offer countless programs for children, teens, and adults. In addition, it will help establish an inspiring “Midtown campus” that will reconnect the circulating library with the Library’s iconic research center, the Stephen A. Schwarzman Building, across Fifth Avenue, creating a free, open destination for thought and ideas in the center of Midtown. The gift also establishes an endowment for programming at the renovated library. The Mid-Manhattan Library renovation is expected to be complete in 2020, when the building will reopen as The Stavros Niarchos Foundation Library (SNFL), a testament to the importance of this gift as well as the Foundation’s extensive previous support. In total, the Foundation has supported the Library with grants of over $60 million.

Residents can use donateNYC to give or find second-hand goods; businesses and nonprofits can exchange used goods; and local reuse organizations can join the donateNYC Partnership.

History of the Art Deco Salvation Army "Fortress" on 14th Street in Manhattan

The Salvation Army has a massive building on 14th Street in Manhattan that balances Art Deco flair and adornments with a heavy "fortress"-like weight.

Our friends at Ephemeral New York recently wrote up a brief history on the impressive building.

In 1930, a concrete and steel Art Deco complex consisting of offices, an auditorium, and Centennial Memorial Temple opened. […] Though no longer the Salvation Army’s national HQ, the fortress-like structures of 14th Street stand as examples of streamlined Art Deco beauty and perfection.
