This well-made video is the culmination of a special summer-long program for high school kids at the Center for Urban Pedology.

In our latest Urban Investigation, CUP worked with Teaching Artist Christina Houle and students from five Bronx high schools to investigate why transit costs what it does and who decides. Students interviewed a number of stakeholders like the chiefspokesman of the MTA, the executive director of a transit advocacy group, a New York State Assembly Member, and a community advocate. They created a short documentary video to share what they learned.

Check out the project page to read more about the students, the video project and about CUP.

Video journalist Dave Gershgorn recently created this short info video detailing the arduous process of getting a New York City street closed for construction or repairs, frequently involving multiple different government and conservation agencies for a single closure.

For lane closures in Lower Manhattan, there are specific rules and permits; almost a dozen city agencies must approve complex construction efforts. While the Department of Transportation takes the lead in this process, what happens if a tree is affected by the construction? That requires a separate permit from the Department of Environmental Protection.
