Mayor de Blasio's Newest Pitch: 50 New Soccer Fields for NYC in 5 Years

On Tuesday, Mayor Bill de Blasio announced a new initiative to build and maintain 50 soccer fields across the five boroughs over the next five years.

"These new soccer fields will be essential in keeping our young New Yorkers safe, active and connected with the community," de Blasio said. "With this partnership, we are tackling inequalities in all its forms - including in our parks and outdoor spaces."

The first eight sites to open will be:

Mayor Bill de Blasio Personally Fills Administration's One-Millionth Pothole on 13th Street and Broadway

Yesterday, New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio personally went out to the corner of 13th Street and Broadway in Union Square to fill the City's one-millionth pothole since he took office.

Since de Blasio took office 796 days ago on January 1st, 2014, the Department of Transportation has filled 1,256 potholes a day on average. Pretty impressive.

Housing New York is a ten year plan to build or preserve 200,000 units of affordable housing in New York City, brought to you by the de Blasio administration.

Affordable housing is part of the bedrock of what makes New York City work. It's what underpins the economically diverse neighborhoods New Yorkers want to live in. It's critical to providing financial stability for working families, helping them get ahead and build a better life.
