The office of New York City Comptroller Scott M. Stringer recently released a scathing report on the uncleanliness of New York City parks bathrooms titled Discomfort Stations: The Conditions and Availability of NYC Parks Bathrooms.

NYC Parks comfort stations have fallen into disrepair, subject to poor maintenance and hazardous conditions. Among the 1,428 NYC Parks bathrooms, nearly 400 sinks, toilets, walls, ceilings, changing tables, and other features were damaged or missing during their latest inspection. Over 50 “hazards” were identified that presented the chance of moderate to debilitating injury. And, in nine Community Districts, more than a quarter of NYC Parks bathrooms were deemed “unacceptable.”

Check out the full report to read more about the state of our NYC Parks bathrooms.

Local YouTuber actionkid105 recently posted a walkthrough tour of one of New York City's self-cleaning, public pay restrooms. They sit on the sidewalk in tourist-heavy areas like Madison Square Park, and cost a quarter to use. Are they worth it?

NYC has self-cleaning toilets which automatically cleans and disinfects after each use, but also comes with a 25 ¢ entrance fee. It also has a time limit of 15 minutes. Is it worth the admission?

I'd say if you are really in need of a public bathroom, $0.25 isn't much to pay to prevent an emergency, no matter what condition the bathroom is in. Otherwise, skip it.

Rockaloo is the ONLY app in NYC that gets you the right to go to the restroom of a restaurant, a cafe or a spa. It’s easy. Just open the app and the map will display the nearest bathroom. You just have to pay a tiny fee; part of that fee will help a a charity of your choice. Last but not least, some locations will offer you a promotion.

Prospect Park recently spent $2.34 million renovating the bathrooms inside the Old Wellhouse and included four special toilets which collect human poop for future composting. As the law currently exists, using human excrement in compost is illegal, but the Prospect Park Alliance see that changing in the near future.

“Right now, New York State doesn’t allow for the compost to be used,” said Prospect Park Alliance spokeswoman Deborah Kirschner. No problem though, says the Alliance, because the poop, like fine wine, needs to be aged for 10 years — enough time for the law to be changed. “We’re hoping by then we’ll be able to use it,”

“It’s benign and perfectly fine,” the bathroom’s architect, Alden Maddry, insisted. “It just makes people squeamish.”

The 315-square-foot Beaux Arts bathroom building tucked behind the New York Public Library in Bryant Park is already a singular urban experience, with fresh flowers, ambient classical music, and a pair of attendants on duty at most times. And these fancy loos have proven extremely popular: in 2016, an average of 3,266 people used the bathroom every day, sometimes waiting in 40-plus-person lines for the privilege.

The Way Station is a Doctor Who themed bar in Brooklyn with a very unique toilet.

In this video, a Youtube series called Golden Thrones, which investigates interesting toilets, help us explore the reality defying urinal. Filled with Doctor Who puns, the video is an entertaining look into the Way Station's iconic feature.

YouTuber Affixton96 went on a video tour of all 45 public bathrooms inside City subway stations back in 2012.

Looking for NYC Subway stations with bathrooms within fare-control? This video shows them. Yes, there are actually working restrooms in the New York City Subway System! This is the worst restroom tour video compilation ever made, and it reveals the names of the 45 subway stations that I discovered to have restrooms. What makes this bathroom adventure video so bad is that it shows the terrible conditions inside the men's restrooms. The conditions inside many of them are just like what you see at the subway station platforms -- dirty, filthy, messy, smelly, stinky, rusty, and disgusting. But there are a few good ones, too. Too bad people who risk their lives trying to pee or poop on the tracks or those who embarrass themselves doing that on walls don't know that there are bathrooms in some of the train stations.

Despite the fun, bouncy stock music on top of the video, it is anything but, even nightmare inducing! Only watch if you have a strong stomach!
