[WATCH] Music Legends Remember 133 Years of Webster Hall's History in the East Village

If halls could talk, this one would scream. Webster Hall is making its triumphant return to the New York music scene, but few fans know this East Village spot’s long history. Dating back to 1886, this hallowed space housed everyone from suffragettes to Broadway legends like Carol Channing. But in 1980, Webster Hall found its true calling when it opened as The Ritz — a downtown venue for rock legends and unsigned bands to let loose. “It was still kind of a run-down New York City sh--hole, but it was awesome,” Anthrax guitarist Scott Ian said. “It was our sh--hole.” With a little help from Jay-Z, Webster Hall reopened its doors on April 26, 2019.

[WATCH] U2's Latest Music Video is a Giant Love Letter to Midtown Manhattan

Supergroup U2 recently released a music video for their new single You're the Best Thing About Me which is basically a love letter to Midtown Manhattan. Throughout the video, the group hits all of the tourist hotspots, meets and greets fans, performs on a rooftop, and shows street scenes of food carts and street performers. We disagree that Midtown is anybody's "best thing", but props to the band for giving our City some love anyway.

Taught by the Third Street Music School in the East Village, The New Horizons Band is a unique program for seniors over 50 to learn and play music together.

New Horizons is an international organization that brings adults together to play music. If you are “50 or better,” join a New Horizons class and make music with like-minded adults! Beginners and experienced musicians on all instruments are welcome. Each group performs at its site and in the community.

This Brooklyn Band Plays Only on Instruments Made From Human Bones

We've all heard of playing the keyboard or piano called the "playing the bones", but Brooklyn band 156 is taking that phrase literally on a new album titled MEMENTO MORI.

All sounds on this EP were made using human bones, or the human breath passing through human bones. The record serves as - for those who cannot obtain one - the skull's replacement in the ritual room where one contemplates death. These sessions have been sporadically recording since 2012, due to the scarcity of the instruments, which include skulls, femurs, vertebrae, bone whistles, and Tibetan thighbone trumpets (kangling).

Led by Adel Suoto, 156 is a musical collective that describes themselves as a drum circle in a rusty junkyard.

Showhaus, a New Website That Lists Local Music Shows Around New York City

Showhaus is a new website which lists all gigs, shows and concerts going on in New York City in a clean, easy to read format. The site describes itself as "an open classifieds for local music", with event data coming from user submissions and event feeds.

Feeds are user-submitted and comprise of the Facebook pages of bands and venues. Periodocially [sic], Showhaus will scrape these pages for new events and display them on the site. This method allows us to scape shows not found on traditional ticketing or concert API's.

We've been following Brooklyn teenage metal trio Unlocking the Truth for a couple of years now, and the band has come a long way.

Breaking a Monster is a new documentary set to release this summer that is all about the band's rise to success and subsequent record deal.

A trio of 7th graders from Brooklyn go from busking in Times Square to a $1.8M record deal. Breaking a Monster reveals Unlocking the Truth's unlikely initiation into the music industry. In theaters this summer.
