Jeanne Gang, arguably the most important female architect working today, heads her own firm, Studio Gang, which is pushing the boundaries of the good that architecture can do, for connecting communities and for the environment. Gang talked with correspondent Martha Teichner about her most recent project, an expansion of New York's American Museum of Natural History, and about the skyscrapers, airport terminal, and other civic spaces she has designed in her hometown of Chicago meant to transform spaces, outside and within.

The team at Blank on Blank recently uncovered a 1957 audio interview with iconic architect Frank Lloyd Wright in which he discusses how arrogance and greed built the NYC skyline, then turned the audio into a great animated short.

As part of our special series, The Experimenters, where we’re uncovering interviews with the icons of science, technology, and innovation, we found this 1957 interview with Frank Lloyd Wright. It’s part of a collection at the Harry Ransom Center at the University of Texas at Austin celebrating The Mike Wallace Interview, a TV program that ran back in the late ‘50s. Frank Lloyd Wright’s designs and style seem very nice, very clean now, but at the time, he was a controversial personality. And like most famous architects, his work was as much hated as respected. And that’s what Mike Wallace wanted to talk about.

New York Based developers Two Trees have torn down most of the old factory to make way for a billion-dollar mega-project, and this architect is in charge of the operation.

The architect Rosario Candela played a major role in shaping the architectural legacy of 20th-century New York—the distinctive “prewar” streetscapes of Park and Fifth Avenues and Sutton Place in particular. "Elegance in the Sky: The Architecture of Rosario Candela" revisits the setback terraces and neo-Georgian and Art Deco ornament of Candela-designed high-rise apartments. His buildings established new standards of chic urban living for some of New York’s wealthiest citizens and still rank among the most prized in the city, almost a century after they were built.

The Day After Tomorrow may be coming sooner than you think. Climate change and rising sea levels could make Hurricane Sandy's damage look minuscule in comparison.

Fortunately, we have innovative minds such as former Cornell student Walmir Luz. Luz's masterplan to adapt Manhattan to the future recently won second prize in the urban planning category at the A'Design Awards.

To cope with the floods, the city would build more barriers on Manhattan edges. Permeable streets would allow the water to pass through. […] Water would become a natural part of city life. Manhattan would also have more marshes and green spaces.

Check out Luz's full design for more futuristic concepts.
