Tonight only (Halloween, 10/31/2020) from 8-9pm EST, you can play the popular color/sound matching game Simon on the real Empire State Building lights. Here's how:

• If you’re in New York or New Jersey, look out your window or find your favorite (socially-distanced) view of ESB and open www.Simon-Live.com on your phone on 10/31 from 8-9PM EST. Not local? Visit www.Simon-Live.com and play along.
• Watch levels of the Empire State Building flash in a series of colors and tones. Tap the building on your device to repeat the pattern correctly. The longer you play, the more complex the sequences.
• For every correct answer, players climb further up the Empire State Building. Each wrong answer knocks you down. Try to make it to the top of the building, and the top of the leaderboard!

The team at OldNYC has created a really interesting iOS app under the same name to help you browse these photos by location on the go in a Google StreetView-like interface, from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod Touch.

OldNYC is the best way to explore more than 100 years of historical photos of New York City. Discover what was there at thousands of locations across Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, the Bronx, and Staten Island.

Download OldNYC for free on iTunes

Let’s admit it - dating in the city isn’t what it used to be. Catching someone's eye at a bar or brushing shoulders on the subway is likely to lead to dirty looks rather than an exchange of numbers.

The dating game has changed, and it’s time we all caught up. But is endless scrolling and swiping really going to find you the one? More likely severe thumb fatigue.

That’s where The Inner Circle comes in. A dating app that actually knows it’s an app and does everything it can to get you meeting in real life. The days of numbers on napkins may not be over after all.

Hosted at some of the world’s most desireable venues, The Inner Circle throws exclusive parties brimming with eligible singletons all philandering over cocktails and canapes. Madame X, The Delancey, and the Lido Deck are to name but a few of the NYC locations that these monthly shindigs pop up in. They range from ugly sweater parties to classy rooftop cocktails and always promise great entertainment, delicious food and tunes to keep you dancing into the early hours. You can rub shoulders with other New Yorkers knowing they’re all single and keen to mingle.

It gets better though - by encouraging members to log their favorite hangouts the ‘Spots’ feature becomes your go-to city guide for tried and tested date ideas. You can get to know the city as you enjoy recommendations from like-minded singles - who knows, you might even bump into your next date.

If this wasn’t already awesome enough, You can log your travel plans when you jet off to the next city, meaning other singletons can greet you - and the ‘Spots’ feature means you’ll have all the local haunts at the push of a button.

The New York Talking Statues project is an interactive way to learn the history of 30 of New York City's statues across all five boroughs. The interesting part is that you scan a QR code on the statue using your phone, and the story is told from the voice and perspective of the subject.

We have chosen the statues for the project from 3 different angles – first of all, there will be historical statues telling us the story of New York City, how the city started and how the statues became a part of it. Secondly, we have chosen the statues erected by immigrants in memory of their culture. And then the project will have statues of famous artists, who have become an important part of New York City.

Download the free App on iTunes, then check out the project page to learn more information about the project's origins.

The TCS NYC Marathon is this Sunday and now you can support your running friends and family by tracking them mile-after-mile-after-mile through all 5 boroughs using the official TCS NYC Marathon App. The way it works is quite simple yet very accurate. Each runner has a small electronic chip on their running bib (where the number is) that is scanned by special receivers at each mile marker. This allows the App to know exactly when the runner crosses a mile marker, and the overall time the runner is at.

Download the TCS NYC Marathon App for FREE on:

iTunes App Store

Google Play

If you don't know anybody else running and just want to try it out, yours truly is running this year (Bib #7367) so track me and wish me luck!

Unlike most restaurant review apps, we focus on the food. We know what it's like to be in the mood for a specific dish or ingredient, but searching the internet and going through dozens of menus was getting tiresome. So we built Taster.

Taster is currently in beta testing, but should be released on iOS in the coming months. Head over to the app page to sign up for notifications on its release.

Local news site Gothamist recently got a sneak peek at a new App that will eventually replace the MetroCard to allow access to New York City's transit systems. The App was created by Cubic, the same people who engineered the existing MetroCard system, and have developed a similar system in Chicago. It is expected to be implemented City-wide by 2023.

The company Cubic, which created the current MetroCard system, has been hired again to bring New York a customized app and scanner, similar to what’s already being used in Chicago and will be similar to systems used in Vancouver and London […] The MTA signed a $573 million contract with Cubic last November. It plans to install 500 electric readers at 500 turnstiles and on 600 buses starting next May. And the entire system is expected to be converted to the new system by 2023. The first wave of subway turnstiles will support smart phones and cards with NFC. But the contactless pay technology is expected to eventually support Apple Pay, Google Pay, and RFID.
