This vintage photograph from 1960 shows the aftermath of the Park Slope Plane Crash near Sterling Place and 7th Avenue. Two planes collided mid-air while descending into La Guardia, and Idlewild airports (later renamed to J.F.K. Airport), killing all 128 people on both aircraft, and six people on the ground. The other plane crashed on Staten Island at Miller Field. Here is a Google StreetView of the same area in Park Slope, rebuilt, as it appears today:

I flew over the NYC Skyline with my friends! This was an amazing journey to fly back and forth the New York City Skyline in a very small plane! Since September 11th you are no longer allowed to do this anymore and I will cherish this adventure for the rest of my life! I hope you enjoy it!
