Despite being smack in the middle of Midtown, Bryant Park is still a great place for locals to hang out, despite being surrounded by tourists.

Doze off on the gorgeous manicured lawn or get involved with one of the many free activities offered to the public year round.

The enveloping skyscrapers surrounding the park, as well as the relaxed atmosphere with it, provide a comforting place to escape the stress of Midtown. Find a spot on the green, take off your shoes, and fall asleep to the City's melodic buzz.

There are also more lively things to do at Bryant Park if you want a more upbeat hang. Play a game of backgammon or chess, a game of ping pong, or if you're lucky, even catch a flashmob marriage proposal!

Photographer Thomas Adler, experimental in his content, delicately expresses his visual outlook on the world through a distinct photographic approach.

Adler seeks Manhattan's secret attractions and showcases them in his featured album Brick and Metal. The photographs in the series exemplify his technique of only closing the shutter in moments where concealed beauties are naturally revealed.

Thomas Adler was kind enough to answer a few questions for us.

How did you start with photography?

When I was in my early teens I went to an Ansel Adams photography exhibit. I fell in love with his work and since then I've wanted to pursue photography.

How do you choose your subject matter?

I choose to take pictures of things that interest me. There's really not much more to it. Sometimes it's the shape of an object or the contrast of the colors that catches my eye. I am still in the developmental/experimental stage of my photography so I have no theme yet but I'm building towards one.

What’s your favorite part of NYC to capture?

My favorite part of NYC is that the city is like an organism forever changing. I could visit the same spot multiple times and every time there would be something new to capture. There is so much more to the city than just what tourists come to see. Every corner of the city has a moment to be captured.

Check out Capture North for more of Adler's work.
